We are "Innovative through research"

SIVIS has been awarded several times for its special research competence and innovative ability. Here you can learn more about our research projects and innovations.

Research and development at SIVIS

Innovations are a decisive force with regard to the economic success of a company. In almost all industries, the exploitation of innovation potential is of great importance. Innovations are also becoming more and more important in order to be able to compete successfully. Therefore, SIVIS GmbH has been investing in research and development for a long time.

Our understanding of innovation includes the development of new products so that we can always offer our customers future-oriented and advanced applications. However, our understanding of innovation also includes broadening our perspectives, thinking outside the box and also renewing our own structures.

SIVIS cooperates closely with Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences (HKA). On the one hand, Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences (HKA) and SIVIS GmbH are working together on the "SIVIS Authorization Robot" project. For this project, the expertise of SIVIS in the area of authorization systems was expanded by necessary competencies in the area of algorithms/optimization through the cooperation with Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences (HKA). On the other hand, SIVIS GmbH assigns and supervises many topics for bachelor and master theses. In the last four years, 14 students have worked with SIVIS. The promotion of young academics is an important part of our understanding of innovation. The students' expertise and innovative approaches complement our research perfectly.

With the increase of various attacks on ERP systems, such as internal misuse, operating errors, mistakes, but also fraud attempts, enormous economic damage can occur. With the KOEX project, SIVIS has set itself the task of developing a security solution to defend against such attacks. The goal of the project "Collaborative Machine Learning for the Detection of Fraud and Risks in ERP Systems" is a software solution that uses machine learning to detect internal fraud cases. In addition to SIVIS, three other partners are involved in the research project: prenode GmbH from Karlsruhe, Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences (HKA) and the Foundation University of Hildesheim. The project is funded by the BMBF (German Federal Ministry of Education and Research).

RAMSES stands for "Remote Area integrating Mobility Hub for Smart Environment InfraStructures". The EU-funded research project aims to strengthen mobility in rural areas and brings public transport service providers together with alternative mobility providers and rural communities on an online platform. This platform is primarily intended to strengthen the small providers of mobility services in rural areas, such as voluntary community transport.

This is what innovation looks like at SIVIS

Goal of the "SIVIS Authorization Robot" project: Automated role and authorization concepts

The goal of the "SIVIS Authorization Robot" project is to develop and implement an automated system that can independently propose role and authorization concepts. This should be able to be executed without the know-how of experts, so that no complex consulting projects would be necessary. The automatic generation of practical role concepts is a novelty in industry and science.

Challenges in the implementation of the automated authorization concept

The challenge in implementing the automated authorization concept is that the new software must be able to process very large amounts of data. These data volumes are too large for the standard data analysis procedures available in the scientific literature. The so-called "role-mining optimization algorithms" must therefore be adapted and extended accordingly. In addition, constant interaction with the algorithm must be ensured so that existing consulting knowledge can be transferred to the virtual consultant in a learning process.

The BMBF-funded "SIVIS Authorization Robot" project

The "SIVIS Authorization Robot" is a project funded by the BMBF (German Federal Ministry of Education and Research) in the field of communication and security of digital systems. In order to complement the expertise of SIVIS in the area of authorization systems with necessary competencies in the area of algorithms/optimization, a cooperation with the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences (HKA) was established.

Background of the "SIVIS Authorization Robot" project

The procedures for creating and maintaining roles in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems are time-consuming and require in-depth knowledge of almost all processes in the company. However, the necessary resources are not available in many companies. This is especially true at a time when there is a continuing shortage of IT security specialists. This results in high security risks in many IT systems.
